Police Blotter: Stolen Jewelry and Sunglasses; Illegally Tinted Windows

Man Found In Possession of Illegal Switchblade Knife; Had Illegal Window Tint
A 21-year-old Somers resident has been accused of driving without a license, having illegally tinted windows and possessing a weapon, police said.
Christian A. Owen's vehicle was stopped on Route 6 on Jan. 18 when officer Bobker observed his black Nissan traveling west bound with excess window tint affixed to the vehicle's side windows.
A computer check revealed the defendant had a suspended driver's license, and in addition he was found in possession of an illegal switchblade knife.
Owen was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor; fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor; and illegal window tint, a traffic violation.
He as released on $200 bail and scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 21.
Woman Steals Jewelry and Sunglasses
A 53-year-old woman faces criminal charges for allegedly stealing jewelry and sunglasses from Sears.
Rachell Dwyer, of Mohegan Lake, was arrested on Feb. 1 when police were summoned by Sears security personnel in Yorktown, reporting that the woman had left without paying for costume jewelry and a pair of sunglasses, valued at a total of $50.
Dwyer was released and scheduled to appear in court on March 1.
Stolen Merchandise from Sears
A Cortlandt Manor man is accused of stealing $67.97 worth of Sears merchandise, police said.
Leonard M. Czekalowski, 68, was arrested on Jan. 28 after police responded to a complains that the man had removed the merchandise from the store display and left without paying. Police did not say what items the man had allegedly stolen.
Czekalowski was released on $60 bail and scheduled to appear in Yorktown Town Court on Feb. 28.
Obstructed View, Suspended License, Heavily Tinted Windows
Police have arrested 24-year-old Carlos Juan Diaz, from Peekskill, for allegedly having a suspended driver's license and heavily tinted windows.
Officer Scatola, who was on routine patrol on Underhill Avenue, observed the defendant's vehicle on Jan. 30 at about 12:23 p.m. Allegedly, the driver had an obstructed view and heavily tinted windows.
He was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor; front window lights transmittance less than 70 percent, a traffic infraction; and driver's view obstructed, a traffic infraction.
Diaz was released on $100 bail and scheduled to appear in Yorktown Town Court on March 1.
Woman Allegedly Passes Through Stop Sign, Found With Suspended License
A 46-year-old Crompond woman is accused of driving with a suspended driver's license and violating several traffic laws, police said.
Julijana Kalaj's vehicle was stopped on Jan. 28 at about 1 a.m. for pass a stop sign at Rt. 202 and the Bear Mountain extension. Police said her license had allegedly been suspended for failing to answer a summons. In addition, the defendant was unlicensed and her vehicle was unregistered.
She was released on $100 bail and scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 28.
