Young Yorktown Advocates United 2012 Kickoff Fundraiser
When/Where: Saturday, Jan. 21 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Winery at St. George in Mohegan Lake
Why Go: Join other members of the Yorktown community for an afternoon of conversation, rememberance and awareness. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Young Yorktown Advocates United. YYAU was founded in response to "the significant and frightening twenty three preventable youth deaths in Yorktown." The committee wants to build awareness, education, and fight for change within the Yorktown community.

Club Fit Open House
When/Where: Saturday, Jan. 21 at Club Fit, 600 Bank Rd, Jefferson Valle. Club hours for the day are 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m
Why Go: Club Fit is holding an Open House when visitors can enjoy the facilities for the day for free. Pack a bathing suit and take a swim in their salt water pools, take one of the many group exercise classes or talk to any of the fitness professionals on hand. Les Misérables
When/Where: Performances are Friday and Saturday at the Yorktown Stage in Yorktown; Friday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 21 at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Why Go: Les Misérables is a musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg, based on the novel by Victor Hugo. Set in early 19th-century France, the plot follows the stories of characters as they struggle for redemption and revolution.

Presentation on Bobcat Sightings in Westchester County
When/Where: Sunday, Jan. 22, 1 p.m. at Westmoreland Sanctuary
Why Go: Westmoreland’s staff has been recording bobcat sightings since October 2005—with almost 50 sightings to date. Come hear Naturalist Adam Zorn talk more about these animals; he will share photos submitted by local residents as well as those captured by Westmoreland staff. Taxidermy and the pelt of a local bobcat (road-killed) will be on display for further discussion of this elusive creature.

The 39th Annual Art Show in Bedford
When/Where: Friday, Jan. 20-Sunday, Jan. 22. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 21 and noon to 4 p.m. on Jan. 22 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church
Why Go: This year’s show and sale will have a more contemporary flair as it features paintings, sculpture and photography. Local charities that are supported by St. Matthew’s will benefit from all of the proceeds.
Price: Saturday and Sunday are free.
LEGO League
When/Where: Saturday, Jan. 21, 10:30 am. at Hendrick Hudson Free Library in Montrose
Why Go: It is a monthly LEGO party, where each meeting will feature a theme, a related story or book talk, and an hour of LEGO building.
Price: Free, for children in grades 1 – 4.
“Red Tails” Screening at City Cinema
When/Where: Saturday, Jan. 21, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the City Cinema 15, White Plains, 19 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY 10601
Why Go: Beta Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity (“BAA”) and the African American Men of Westchester, Inc. (“AAMW”) will host a movie screening of Red Tails, a World War II action adventure based upon the true story of America first all-black combat unit of the great Tuskegee Airmen.
All proceeds will benefit the organizations Fatherhood Imitative, a program to strengthen and maintain fatherhood and their commitment and involvement in their children’s lives. The program is administered through the White Plains Youth Bureau, which maintains regular meetings and activities, such as, “Bring Your Child to School,” guest speakers, and a local public access television program.

Jedi Academy for Croton Kids
When/Where: Sunday, Jan. 22, 2 p.m. at the Croton Free Library
Why Go: The library says to come and “buckle on your cryo-helmet and prepare for hyper-space!” The Jedi Academy is coming to the Croton Free Library–a comic adventure show for kids ages 4-11, offering training in the futuristic arts for little heroes of today. Led by a wise “Jedi Master," this interactive program features participation in a light saber class, coordination games and creative dramatic play.

Piazza, Sheffield, Headline Westchester County Autograph Show
When/Where: Friday, Jan.20 from 2 – 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
Why Go: JP’s Sports and Rock Solid Promotions Inc. are putting on a sports card and memorabilia show at the Westchester County Center in White Plains this weekend. The “Winter Extravaganza” is expected to have 300 tables and 150 booths of local dealers from across the tri state area.
Price: Admission is $7 per day and children under 12 are free. Admission entitles you to one free autograph ticket for a former Met Southpaw. On Saturday the free ticket is for Al Jackson and on Sunday the ticket is good for one Jon Matlack signature. Click here for full line-up of appearances.

Why Go: Listen to author Alyssa Capucilli read from her Biscuit books: all about the adventures of one little yellow puppy.

Celebrate the Year of the Dragon
Where/When: Saturday, Jan. 21 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Pelham Arts Center
Why Go: Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with the Pelham Art Center. Bring in the Chinese New Year with two free art workshops, and do paper-making crafts to honor the New Year.

Owl Moon
When/Where: Saturday, Jan. 21, 7 p.m. at Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining
Why Go: For all you owl fans: A cold winter’s eve is the best time to go owling. After reading the classic Owl Moon, you will wander outdoors to call for owls. Dress appropriately for winter conditions. Not meant for kids under five years old.

Documentary Film: “Fish: A Memoir of a Boy in a Man's Prison"
When/Where: Saturday, Jan. 21, 7 p.m. at The Schoolhouse Theater in Croton Falls
Why Go: See the screening and join the discussion of the thought-provoking documentary film by T.J. Parsell. He spent nearly a quarter of his life in prison; by 30 he'd put himself through college and was a successful software executive; at 40 he became a human rights activist, a published author, and one of the nation's leading advocates to end prisoner rape. Parsell now attends NYU Graduate Film School, where he is making a feature length film from his award-winning book, Fish: A Memoir of a Boy in a Man's Prison (Da Capo Press, 2007). Film: “Mother Nature’s Child”- Growing Outdoors in the Media Age
When/Where: Friday, Jan. 20, 6-9 p.m. at Audubon Greenwich
Why Go: This film explores nature’s powerful role in children’s health and development through the experience of toddlers, children in middle childhood and adolescents. Including interviews with experts like Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods, the film asks: Why do children need unstructured time outside? What is the place of risk-taking in healthy child development? How is play a form of learning? A short discussion will follow the film with a guest speaker from the Connecticut Outdoor & Environmental Education Association.
