The Great Westchester Toy and Train Show
When/Where: Sunday, Jan. 29 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
Why Go: This is the largest toy and train show in the Northeast. See over 250 tables of new and antique toys and trains, all gauges, train parts, layouts, die cast automobiles, books, test tracks, toy soldiers, and games for all ages—food vendors as well.
Price: Admission is $10, free for children under 12.
Teatown: Amazing Animal Eyes
When/Where: Sat, Jan. 28 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining
Why Go: Animal eyes come in all shapes and sizes form the built in binoculars of hawks to the multi-faceted eyes of insects. Come see how animals look at the world in their own way. Pre-register by calling Teatown at (914) 762-2912, ext. 110, Tuesday - Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Earring Making for a Good Cause
When/Where: Sun, Jan. 29 1 p.m. at the John C. Hart Memorial Library in Shrub Oak
Why Go: Make earrings for yourself and for a Battered Women’s Shelter. You can bring any old bead jewelry that you can recycle into earrings. If you have any jewelry making tools, bring them along too. The program, limited to 30 participants, is open to adults and teens. Registion is required.

Snowshoe Day at FDR Park
When/Where: Sat, Jan 28 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., FDR State Park, 2957 Crompond Road
Why Go: Join REI & Friends of FDR Park in Yorktown Heights for a day of winter fun. Stomp through the park on a pair of demo snowshoes with REI. Come out and enjoy winter any way you like. This is the first official event from the newly formed Friends group.

The Children’s Theatre Company of Peekskill Presents a Double Feature Production
When/Where: Sat. Jan. 28 and Sun. Jan. 29 (and Feb. 4 and 5), 3 p.m. at the Ford Theatre in Peekskill
Why Go: Celebrating its sixth consecutive season, The Children's Theatre Company of Peekskill will present two musicals: The Butter Battle and Tale and Stone Soup. The double musical treat, appropriate for children and adults alike, includes the musical adaptation by Lory Lazarus, based on the Butter Battle Book by Dr. Seuss with music and lyrics by Lori Lazarus and Stone Soup, an adaption by Mehr Mansuri and Jill Bolstridge with music and lyrics by Frank Sanchez & Mehr Mansuri in collaboration with Lory Lazarus.
Price: Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased prior to each performance.
'Oliver!'
When/Where: Performances are from Jan. 28 through Feb. 5 at the Tarrytown Music Hall
Why Go: 'Oliver!' is a musical retelling of Dickens' famous novel, Oliver Twist. The plot concerns the adventures of an orphan boy in 19th century London as he escapes abusive treatment in an orphanage and joins a group of pickpockets. Songs include "Where is Love," "It's a Fine Life," "I'd Do Anything," and of course the haunting "As Long As He Needs Me. During this weekend's performance you can watch Madison Battinelli of Yorktown, who was cast as a workhorse orphan
Price: Cost $18 for adults, $16 for children under 12 and seniors, $14 per person for groups of 20 plus and $10 for schools. Premium seating tickets in the first four rows of center orchestra are priced at $23. They benefit Random Farms Scholarship Fund.

The World of Mammals
When/Where: Sat. Jan 28, from 11a.m. - 12:30pm at Westmoreland Sanctuary in Mount Kisco
Why Go: Found on every continent in the world, across land, and in the sea, mammals are one of the most successful groups of organisms on the planet. Discover the world of mammals through the use of bones, skulls, furs, and a rabbit. Program takes place inside the nature center.
Price: Free for members.
Croton Harmon Co-Ed Varsity Cheerleaders Host Cheer Competition
When/Where: Saturday, Jan. 28, 8:30 a.m. at the main gym of Croton-Harmon High School. Doors to the modified and all-star meet will open at 8.30 a.m. and the competition starts at 9 a.m. The Junior Varsity and Varsity competition will take place at 1 p.m.
Why Go: The Croton Harmon Varsity Cheerleaders, and their coaches, Susan Barringer and Stacy Vlad, will be hosting “The Croton- Harmon Hudson Valley Classic Cheerleading Championship.” Check out the moves of 27 cheerleading teams, representing fourteen regional high schools who will compete. They include: Brewster, Byram Hills, Dover, Fox Lane, Hendrick Hudson, Harrison, Lakeland, Putnam Valley, Somers and Yorktown.
Price: The spectator entry fee for all competitions is $10 and children under 5 are free.
Chess Tournament
When/Where: Sat. Jan. 28 from 10:15 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Rye Free Library Reading Room
Why Go: Test your skills at the library’s annual Chess Tournament for ages 6-14. Chess champion Tom Levine, who has conducted the popular tournament for more than twenty-five years, will once again referee round-robin play and award prizes to the top three players. Participants should bring a chess set and snack, and plan to play four rounds. All skill levels welcome.

Knickerbocker Ice Festival
When/Where: Sat. Feb. 28 and Sun. Feb 29 from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Rockland State Park in Congers
Why Go: It is a two-day festival featuring contests among award-winning ice sculptors, a kids park, a hike, entertainment, food and more.
Price: Parking is $8
Jack and the Beanstalk
When/Where: Sat, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Ridgefield Playhouse
Why Go: Take the kids to see this modern day young hero use his imagination to become the famous Jack from the book he is reading. As he spins the tale of trading the family cow for three magic beans, you will watch the giant beanstalk grow as the hero climbs through the clouds to meet an ill- tempered giant, find fabulous treasures and more.
