State Senate Candidate Wagner Criticizes Sen. Ball's Spending on Mailers

Calling the senator’s mailers wasteful and hypocritical, Sen. Ball’s challenger calls for mailer reform.

Glossy mailers featuring Sen. Greg Ball with his dog should not be paid for by taxpayer dollars, said Sen. Ball’s District 40 challenger Justin Wagner today during a press conference at his Peekskill headquarters. Wagner also released a YouTube video featuring Ball’s former opponent, Steve Katz, that attacks Ball for his spending on mailers promoting Ball’s work to repeal the MTA payroll tax. According to Wagner, who is a Croton resident and Democratic Party candidate, Ball has spent more money on mailers than any other Hudson Valley Senator and is the third highest spender on mailers in the State Senate.  “In the period from April until September 2011, Senator Ball spent $108,903 of taxpayer funds on bulk postage mailers,” Wagner said. “…

Frank's totally on the mark here. Harry Reid is to Putnam County what a fish is to a bicycle. Ball must continue the anti-immigration agenda that got him elected (cause he's done so much to stop it!) for the sake of mankind. God Bless only us.   more ›

Rep. Nan Hayworth Weighs in on New District

Incumbent Republican has a district that includes less of northern Westchester than before.

Despite losing most of the town of Yorktown to redistricting, Rep. Nan Hayworth hopes her role in Congress will continue to benefit the community. The incumbent Republican, who lives in Bedford, weighed in on the shape of her new Congressional district, now known as the 18th, which was drawn by a federal judge after the state legislature did not act to perform its decennial task of redrawing the boundaries. "It’s a great district," she said. "It’s a district that I know well. The folks who are new to my direct representation in many, many cases, know me already." Hayworth was also asked about representing towns that will be split in the area, including parts of Yorktown, New Castle and North Castle. She will be sharing all three of these …

These districts don't belong to the elected representatives (note that phrasing, it should give a clue), they belong to the people. We give the representatives the privilege of serving -- another illuminating phrase. That's why we have elections.   more ›

I don't think the social issues are the biggest problem. Illegal immigration is a non-issue BECAUSE THEY'RE ALREADY HERE! Debt and Taxes ARE BIG PROBLEMS. Lowey has personally raised the national deficit from $3.5 Trillion to $14+ Trillion and sees nothing wrong with it. If that's ok with you keep voting for her, but remember, that makes you part of the problem, too. Fiscally conservative …   more ›

Carvin Starts Congressional Campaign vs. Lowey

The new 17th district includes Yorktown.

Last week, Rye Town Supervisor Joe Carvin announced his decision to run against US Congresswoman Nita Lowey for the 17th District seat. This Monday morning, Carvin will officially launch his campaign with a press conference from the steps of Rye Town Hall in Port Chester. The new 17th district, created by a federal magistrate judge earlier this month after the state legislature did not produce new maps, includes Yorktown. Hedge fund manager Carvin initially announced plans to challenge US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, but after a Republican party caucus in Rochester, NY, Carvin decided to stand aside for US Representative Bob Turner. And in politics in seems, turnabout is fair play. Fellow Republican Anthony Mele announced Sunday night, he …

Carvin Backs Out of Senate Race

According to recent reports, Rye Town Supervisor has reconsidered his bid for US Senate.

Only 4 days ago, Rye Town Supervisor Joe Carvin (R) garnered the support of the Westhester County GOP in his plans to challenges US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Friday morning, however, two weeks after the initial announcement of his campaign, Carvin has had a change of heart.  According to the Associated Press and other published reports, Carvin told a gathering of Republicans in Rochester he would not continue his bid. According to a report in the Washington Post, Carvin said he announced plans to run against Nassau County comptroller George Maragos to give vote a choice. New York City attorney Wendy Long and U.S. Rep. Bob Turner remain in the field.

Michael Grace Wins Supervisor Race With Final Count of Absentee Ballots

According to the Westchester County Board of Elections, Grace had secured a total of 3,078 votes to opponents Don Peters' 2,846 votes and incumbent Susan Siegel's 2,316 votes.

Yorktown supervisor candidate Michael Grace, who is also a former town attorney, has won the three-way race in his first run for public office.  According to the Westchester County Board of Elections all absentee ballots were counted earlier this week. Grace had secured a total of 3,078 votes to his opponents Don Peters' 2,846 and incumbent Susan Siegel's 2,316 votes. Grace was careful to declare himself a winner a few weeks ago when all districts reported the results, while Peters said he was waiting out on the final numbers when all absentee ballots and affidavits are counted. Grace remained ahead of Peters, and Siegel conceded.
